A 45-year-old man died on Monday after falling or jumping from the 12th floor of the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells, police said.

Mineral Wells police officers and firefighters responded about 9 p.m. to reports of a man on the roof of the Baker Hotel, police said in a social media post.

Officers tried to contact the man, but the attempts were unsuccessful and he either fell or jumped from the 12th floor, police said. He died from his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the man and determine an official cause and manner of his death.

The historic Baker Hotel closed in 1972 and has remained vacant. A $65 million renovation project has been underway since 2019 and the hotel is expected to reopen in 2028.
