SAN ANTONIO – A long-running Día de los Muertos celebration has been called off this year amid concerns surrounding immigration enforcement.

Planet K announced it is canceling its Día de los Muertos Festival, which had been scheduled for Nov. 2, 2026. The cancellation notice was posted to Facebook by Woodlawn Lake Park.

Planet K said it started the festival in San Antonio 20 years ago and that “for two decades we have remained dedicated to bringing our community together each year to celebrate, honor, and remember those who came before us.”

The company said it has only canceled the festival twice in those 20 years — “once due to COVID-19, and now due to current political and economic challenges that immigration enforcement that caused ongoing conflict.”

“This decision was not made lightly,” Planet K said. “We refuse to bring people together under ICE TERRORISM & political war, and the immigration enforcement that caused ongoing conflict.”

Planet K apologized to “the many charities that have benefited throughout the years, including local youth programs, community organizations, and families in need,” as well as “our vendors, artists, families, supporters, and everyone who looks forward to celebrating Día de los Muertos with us each year.”

“Although we are taking a pause this year, we have faith we can return in 2027,” the company said.
