EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso residents will have a new way to honor loved ones who have died as Día de los Muertos approaches, with a community altar planned at City Hall.

The City of El Paso is inviting the public to take part in a Día de los Muertos Community Altar at City Hall, a tradition of remembrance that celebrates the lives, stories, and memories of family members, friends, and loved ones who have died.

The altar will be set up in the City Council Foyer, creating a shared space where residents can remember someone special by adding a photograph.

City officials said the altar will bring individual memories together in a community display reflecting connections and traditions shared across El Paso.

The city said residents are welcome to participate by contributing a photograph or by stopping by to view the altar.

Residents who want to participate should submit a 5-by-7-inch photo of a loved one by 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22. According to the city, photos can be dropped off at City Hall and should include the submitter’s name and phone number so they can be returned after the altar is taken down.
