AUSTIN, Texas — Get ready to stamp your local business passport, Austin!

October is Legacy Business Month in Austin, a time to celebrate businesses that have called Austin home for 20 years or more. Participants can visit businesses and make purchases for the chance to win prizes.

Preservation Austin, which organized the event, defines a legacy business as “a beloved local establishment open for 20 years or more that anchors a community and epitomizes classic cool.”

Participating businesses include:

Antone’s
Mr. Natural
Sam’s Bar-B-Que
Oilcan Harry’s
Saxon Pub
Terra Toys
Shandeez Grill
Mozart’s
Room Service Vintage
Aussie’s Grill & Beach Bar

To get in on the fun, pick up a legacy business passport at any of the following locations:

Wheatsville Co-Op North (3101 Guadalupe St, Austin, TX 78705)
Wheatsville Co-Op South (4001 S Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78704)
Zilker Taproom (1701 E. 6th St, Austin, TX 78702)

Then, register your passport at this link.

Once you have your passport, you can visit a participating business, make a purchase and get your passport stamped. The more stamps you have, the better the prizes get.

1-6 stamps: Merchandise and gift cards from participating businesses
7+ stamps: Premium prize raffle
10 stamps: Automatically receive two tickets to Preservation Austin’s 2026 homes tour

On Nov. 5, a wrap party at the Saxon Pub will be held at 1320 South Lamar Blvd. from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. where participants can enter a raffle to win prizes and giveaways for most stamps collected. Prizes include two SXSW Music wristbands, spa experiences at Ottine Mineral Springs, gift cards and merchandise from participating businesses and more.

With many beloved local businesses closing in the last few years and more expected to follow, Preservation Austin says it’s following the examples of other cities with legacy business programs to “identify, uplift, and generate support for new policies and tools to sustain legacy businesses citywide and ensure they remain vital cultural landmarks for generations to come.”
