Every Halloween, Lubbock heads over to the internet to complain in full force about teenagers trick-or-treating.
“They’re too old for costumes.”
“They probably have jobs. They can buy their own candy.”
“Halloween is for little kids.”
For crying out loud, guys. Give them a mini Snickers and shut up already.
Seriously.
Let’s think about it…
What would you rather these teenagers be doing?

They are out in a neighborhood, wearing silly costumes, hanging out with friends, and asking for candy handouts.
That’s about as wholesome as teenage behavior can possibly get.
They could be out drinking, vandalizing something, and getting into all kinds of mischief.
A 6-foot-tall SpongeBob is the least of our worries.

And here’s something else to consider…

Not everyone who comes by knocking for candy on Halloween is going to be a little kid.
Some adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities enjoy trick-or-treating, too.
They may look forward to Halloween all year long.
Please don’t ruin the night for them by being rude.
Imagine being a grown adult who makes someone feel unwelcome or embarrassed over a piece of candy that costs approximately 17 cents…
Exactly.
Don’t be that guy.

You don’t need to verify or ask questions.
Just pass out candy.
That’s your only job on Halloween.
Candy.
Easy peasy.
There’s no legal age limit for trick-or-treating in Lubbock, by the way. Buy enough candy to make a few kids happy. Smile. Compliment their costumes. Enjoy the evening with your family.
Halloween is all about fun.
