After 40 years of business, Pak-A-Pocket serves a $7 lunch pita.

Owners Imad and Elizabeth Eljizi opened their pita pocket restaurant in 1986 off Bryant Irvin Road across the street from Country Day private school. The restaurant is clean as a whistle, located in its original strip mall building with wooden tables and banquet chairs.

Imad, from Lebanon, operates back of the house cooking chicken shawarma, gyros, falafel and their delicious house salads. Elizabeth still runs the register, greeting every guest with a smile when they walk in.

But the point is, after four decades, prices have barely risen. Since 2023, items have (maybe) gone up a dollar.

Their menu consists of freshly made pita sandwiches, salads and even some baked potatoes. Their pita pockets are stuffed with guest’s choice of turkey, chicken shawarma, roast beef, pastrami, gyro meat, falafel, chicken or tuna salad, baba ghanoush, the list goes on.

This place has been a go-to healthy meal for me since my broke college student days at TCU. And I always get the same thing: Chicken Shawarma Pocket.

Melty provolone and thinly sliced chicken shawarma are packed into a pita pocket with lettuce, tomato and choice of dressing — get the house dressing, light and fresh.

If you get the entrée alone, it would be $7.35. However, I splurged and also bought chips and a drink to bring my total to $10.97 (before tip).

The serving is filling. But don’t expect to have leftovers.

Pak-A-Pocket lunch hour is always popular because it offers a daily lunch special from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The deal includes some sort of pita pocket or entrée with chips, fruit and a drink.

When I visited on Wednesday, there was a taco lunch special for $8.25 or a baba ghanoush pocket special for $7.25. My chicken shawarma was $7.35 alone, $10.13 with chips and a drink. So choose your fighter.

Pak-A-Pocket is located at 5512 Bellaire Drive, Suite D in Fort Worth. They are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Saturday and Sunday.
