EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso has tapped a veteran airport executive to lead El Paso International Airport.
The City of El Paso announced Friday that it has selected Rachel Engeler as the new aviation director.
Engeler will take over after the position was left vacant following the departure of Juan Antonio “Tony” Nevarez in April.

The city said Engeler has more than two decades of experience and previously worked at two airports in Wisconsin, with responsibilities that included airport safety and operations, regulatory compliance, air service development, budgeting, procurement, capital planning and strategic planning.
Her achievements include managing a $15.7 million annual operating budget and a $100 million Capital Improvement Program, as well as leading initiatives involving terminal planning and real estate development, the city said.
As aviation director, Engeler will oversee the city’s Aviation Department and its 200-plus employees.
“Rachel brings the experience, leadership and strategic vision to help guide El Paso International Airport into its next chapter,” City Manager Dionne L. Mack said. “Her background in airport operations, capital planning and organizational leadership will help us strengthen ELP as a transportation and economic gateway while positioning the airport for continued growth.”
Engeler will step into the role on Oct. 26.
