On Monday, voters will arrive at the polls for early voting for the Nov. 3 midterm.
People will select candidates for the Texas governor, U.S. Senate races, the state Supreme Court and various county positions.
Getting to the polls might be daunting for students, as the Maverick Activities Center is not a voting site this year. The closest voting location to UTA is the Tarrant County Sub-Courthouse in Arlington.
To ease some of the uncertainty, Student Government is offering a MavMover shuttle bus to take students from the University Center to the courthouse Tuesday, which is the second day of early voting.
The first pickup will be at noon, and the last pickup will be at 4 p.m. The bus will leave and arrive in 30-minute intervals.
Before heading out, students should make sure they have a valid form of identification, which may be one of the following:
Texas driver’s licenseTexas election ID certificateTexas personal ID cardTexas handgun licenseU.S. citizenship certificate with photoU.S. military ID cardU.S. passport (book or card)
If a voter does not have one of these, they must fill out an impediment declaration at the polls and present an alternative form of ID, such as:
Current utility billBank statementGovernment checkPaycheckVoter registration certificateCertified domestic birth certificate or court-admissible birth document
A copy or an original version of these materials are acceptable.
Here’s how to vote:
After entering the voting area, a poll worker will ask to see one of the seven acceptable forms of photo identification. They will provide a card that slides into the voting device and direct people to an electronic voting station to begin the session. Some devices may show all ballot choices on one screen. People can select the candidate they want to vote for on the device. After all races have been voted on, people can review their choices; if they misclicked a position, they can return to the voting screen and reselect. If there were no issues, individuals will be prompted to print out the ballot that was initially put into the voting machine. Once the paper ballot prints out, they will take it to a separate scanner, where the ballot will be scanned and dropped into the collection machine, completing the process.
