SETX — Surviving Parents of Southeast Texas marked nine years of support for grieving families with a community celebration Saturday in Beaumont.

The organization, which offers help to parents navigating the loss of a child, hosted an event that included games, snow cones, a fun house, prizes and fellowship.

Chairman Michelle Ross said the group provides a support system for people who may not have one elsewhere. “Some people don’t have family, and they don’t have a support system to lean on,” Ross said. “So it gives you tools, we give the tools to move forward in your grieving process. So just to listen to have someone there to vent or to help you along the way with your court cases.”

Surviving Parents of Southeast Texas said it was glad to see community members come out to celebrate “nine years of love, support, and survival.”

Founder Demetricia Holloway said the anniversary event was a time to celebrate survival, honor loved ones who are no longer physically present and recognize the strength it takes to keep going each day. Holloway also said the journey may look easy, but it is faith and God’s guidance that continue to lead the organization forward.
