A body has been found in a popular Central Texas lake for the first time in nearly a year. The Austin Police Department (APD) have reportedly discovered a body in Lady Bird Lake on Friday, October 16.

APD told MySA that officers responded to a welfare check shortly before midnight Friday after witnesses reported seeing a body floating in the lake near the Wishbone Bridge pedestrian trail. The Austin Fire Department (AFD) were also dispatched to help with the search using a civilian boat.

APD says AFD personnel recovered the body from the water and the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene. A man’s body was found just after 12:30 a.m., according to KVUE.

The TCMO reported no obvious signs of trauma and the person’s cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner, according to police. APD added that this is not being investigated as a homicide, and the death investigation remains ongoing.

The deceased person has not been identified at this time, and it’s currently unclear what led up to their discovery on the lake.  MySA reached out to AFD for more information on this incident.

This is a developing story, we will update this file with new details as they become available. This incident comes nearly a year after a body was found in Lady Bird Lake on October 25, 2025.

Last year, FOX 7 reported that at least 38 bodies have been found in or around Lady Bird Lake since 2022.
