What you need to know as early voting begins in Lubbock

  • October 19, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Early voting began Monday, and Lubbock County election officials are reminding voters what to have ready before they go to the polls.

Troy Havard, the Lubbock County elections administrator, said the first day of early voting is the day to resolve any registration issues.

“If a voter shows up at a polling location and there’s a problem with their voter registration, their address is incorrect in the system or if they’re not showing up at all in the system, that’s okay. It happens. It does not necessarily mean that they’re not registered. We do have updates that we do to the voter registration database that we push out periodically to update that information. And again, as I alluded to before, they could always vote a provisional ballot and we can sort out what the issue is,” Havard said.

Valid ID required

Havard said voters should make sure they have a valid ID — a state ID, driver’s license or passport — and that their information is up to date.

He said that also helps poll workers manage anticipated high voter traffic.

“Yeah, so generally speaking, historically, the first day of early voting, first thing in the morning is busy, very busy. And the last couple of days of early voting, are busy, and the busiest times of those days are the last couple of hours of early voting. That is historically the case,” Havard said.

Voting hours and locations

Early voting runs Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There are 21 early voting locations in Lubbock County. Havard encouraged voters to visit votelubbock.gov to find the full list of locations and print a sample ballot.

Havard said this election includes federal, state and local races.

“This election has a lot bigger ramifications than others because this includes federal, state, and local elections as well. So not just the local elections, but this will affect the statewide races and federal races as well. So I encourage everyone to get out and vote. Please get out and vote. I don’t care how you vote, vote your conscience, but just get out and vote. Everyone’s voice needs to be heard,” Havard said.
