I once saw someone say that one of the things they missed most about El Paso was our rock walls, and I remember thinking, Really? Of all the things you could miss about El Paso, you miss the ROCK WALLS?!

But then I started thinking about it, and you know what? They kind of had a point.

Those rock walls that separate our houses and line our backyards are something we see every day, but I never really thought about how much they’re a part of El Paso until recently.

El Paso’s Rock Walls Are Everywhere

Seriously, take a look around your neighborhood. Chances are, you’ve got a rock wall in your backyard, your neighbor has one, and so does pretty much everyone else on your street!

I always assumed this was normal everywhere. Then one time I was visiting Phoenix and noticed that most of the fences I saw were just plain block walls.

And that’s when I realized how much I actually like our rock walls!

There’s something about the different shapes and colors of the rocks that makes them look so much nicer than a plain concrete wall. Maybe I’m biased, but I think they give our neighborhoods a little more personality.

Not Everyone Is a Fan of El Paso’s Rock Walls

I also recently discovered that not everyone shares my love for our rock walls!

A couple of Reddit and Facebook discussions about El Paso’s rock walls caught my attention, and it turns out some people really aren’t fans of them.

Some think they’re ugly, while others love them and appreciate how well they hold up.

I know I’m going to get a lot of hate for this but these rock walls gotta go!

El Paso’s Rock Walls Are Part of What Makes Us Unique

Look, I’m not saying El Paso is the only city in the world with rock walls, but you have to admit they’re a pretty recognizable part of our neighborhoods.

And sure, they’re not everyone’s cup of tea, but personally, I’ll take a rock wall over a wooden fence or plain cinder blocks any day!

We always talk about our mountains, our food, and all the other things that make El Paso special. Maybe it’s time we gave our rock walls a little love, too.

I never thought I’d be defending a bunch of rocks stacked together, but here we are!
