It’s easy to think of Lubbock Animal Services as strictly a cat-and-dog operation.

I’m sure cats and dogs make up the bulk of what Lubbock Animal Services deals with, but I’ve seen all kinds of critters pop up on their social media feed. Guinea pigs, chickens, and more. Oh, and pigs. Let’s not forget those pigs.

It’s a little sad that we can’t do more to fund their efforts, give them additional space, or provide extra help during peak times. There’s no doubt that Lubbock has too many unwanted pets, and I think making sure we’re taking care of all of God’s creatures should be a priority in our community.

But let’s get to the snake.

A Snake Went To The Movies In Lubbock, But Apparently Didn’t Stay For The Credits

This week, Lubbock Animal Services posted a picture of a snake pickup. Now, that’s not necessarily a big deal. I’ve seen them pick up rats and all kinds of other critters. What makes this particular story interesting is where they picked up the snake: Tinseltown movie theater.

That’s right. Apparently, somebody’s snake decided to take in a movie.

From what I can tell, the snake appears to be a ball python. I’m not sure what movie it went to see, but I can tell you Snakes on a Plane isn’t currently playing.

My best guess is that somebody thought it would be fun to take their snake on a little field trip, and somewhere between the previews and the credits, the little guy made a break for it.

Can you imagine that? One minute you’re enjoying a movie with your snake, and the next minute he’s gone. What do you even do at that point?

Walk up to the concession stand and say, “Excuse me, has anybody turned in a python?”

It’s not exactly something you can check the lost and found for. And I’m guessing an announcement over the theater’s speakers asking everyone to check under their seats for a missing snake wouldn’t go over particularly well.

I have to say, it’s a beautiful snake, and I imagine somebody is missing it terribly. Of course, there’s also the possibility that the owner is a little too embarrassed to come forward and admit they failed in their snake-watching duties.

Then again, maybe the snake escaped from somewhere nearby and just wanted to catch a matinee. Until somebody claims it, we may never know.

I’m just glad nobody stepped on it, hurt it, or panicked before Lubbock Animal Services came to the rescue.

So let this be a lesson to all you snake lovers out there.

If you’re going to take your snake to the movies, make sure it’s on a leash!
