COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office projects roughly 320,000 returned ballots this year — about 30,000 more than the 2022 midterm.
With less than two weeks until the November election, more than 50,000 voters in El Paso County have already turned in their ballots.
The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office is preparing for what could be one of the county’s biggest turnouts for a midterm election in a long time.
Officials say they believe significantly more voters will be heading to ballot boxes in the coming days than four years ago, and they expect more than 30,000 additional ballots to be cast this year.
The office said it anticipates a turnout of around the 60% threshold — about 320,000 returned ballots. For reference, the 2022 midterm had a turnout of 288,000. The clerk’s office said there has been a significant rise in the number of registered voters in El Paso County since then.
Voters are deciding on more than a dozen statewide issues, as well as local and state races. Parts of El Paso County are voting on Issue 7-A, the Front Range Passenger Rail District, and the county clerk discussed how his office made sure ballots were distributed correctly.
“We made the decision, and also based on talking to our, you know, legal counsel here in El Paso County, we went with Senate Bill 127, and we used that boundary, which specifically said City of Colorado Springs, City of Manitou Springs, and so basically that was the right way to do it,” El Paso County Clerk and Recorder Steve Schleiker said.
Six in-person voting centers are now available. For more information on drop box locations, click here.
