The UTA chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts is hosting its annual Spookathon event from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brazos Park.
The event will have a true crime theme and will feature vendors, food, a cosplay competition and other activities. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their Halloween costumes.
Jorja De Guzman, president of the chapter, said the cosplay contest will be at 6 p.m. Active cosplayers in the community will pick the winner, who will receive a $20 Amazon gift card.
Guzman said that leading up to the event, the organization is having a scavenger hunt, which will have prizes given on the day of the event. Clues have been posted on the organization’s social media.
Guzman has been part of the organization for two years and has seen the event get bigger. She said the event started out in the CAPPA Courtyard, with space for up to 20 vendors. Now, as the event is hosted in Brazos Park, she said the event can fit around 35 vendors and expands the range of people the organization can reach.
“I feel like this event is actually one of our best when it comes to trying to reach out and talk to the student body,” she said.
Guzman said a team of around 20 people across programming, marketing, branding and production branches have been working to make the event possible.
“Every single person is working hard to make an event that matters and does well for UTA,” she said.
