ROCKPORT — The Rockport-Fulton volleyball team grabbed some early momentum against Corpus Christi London during their District 30-4A match on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

But London seized it back in the second set and never let it go as it broke a tie at the top of the district standings by taking a 22-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-11 victory over Rockport-Fulton at Rockport-Fulton High School.

Rockport-Fulton fell to 22-12 overall and 9-2 in district play as London improved to 20-19 and 10-1 with one match remaining in the regular season for both squads. Thanks to Corpus Christi Moody’s win against Ingleside on Oct. 20, both London and Rockport-Fulton will represent the district in the Class 4A Division II playoff bracket.

“We were talking in the locker room, we still have another district game to win on (Oct. 23) and then we prepare for playoffs,” Rockport-Fulton coach Jessica Clark said. “It’s OK to be upset, we should be upset, we have a team of girls that really wanted to win and things just didn’t go our way.”

Holly Baergen led Rockport-Fulton with nine kills as Julia Lechler added eight and Allie Garcia six. Baergen also had 10 digs, five aces and a block assist in the victory as Garcia added three block assists and two aces.

Ellie Leftwich and Elizabeth Isbell split setting duties with Leftwich recording 10 assists and Isbell nine. Kenna Nguyen led Rockport-Fulton with 17 digs and Gianna Cox had 12. Marie Henderson contributed two block assists in the loss.
