Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick campaigns in Lubbock, says state must regulate data centers

  • October 21, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick made a brief campaign stop in Lubbock Wednesday morning, calling the upcoming midterms the most important election yet.

Patrick, who heads the Texas Senate, is running for a fourth term. He said a trio of Democrats are running against West Texas values.

Patrick addresses data centers

On the topic of data centers, Patrick said the state needs to regulate bad actors when the Legislature reconvenes in January.

“And as I’ve told the data center industry, this is your Bud Light moment,” Patrick said. “You’ve really messed up. And Budweiser hasn’t recovered. And if you all don’t get with the program and take care of the local communities, and sit down and tell people what you’re doing and how they benefit from it, and give them the right to decide if you’re going to build it, then you’re going to be like Budweiser. You’re going to be kicked to the side.”

Democratic challenger

Democrat Vikki Goodwin is challenging Patrick for his seat. She is a state representative from the Austin area.

Goodwin’s campaign focuses on education funding reform and restricting the growth of AI data centers. Her campaign has not announced any events until Election Day.
