EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso County will rename its Downtown County Annex in honor of former County Attorney and Texas state Sen. José R. Rodríguez during a ceremony Friday.

The unveiling is scheduled for 3 p.m. Oct. 23 at the annex at 2:30 p.m., according to the county.

The County Commissioners Court approved the renaming July 27.

The building houses the El Paso County Attorney’s Office and the County Auditor’s Office.

Community donations funded the renaming project and new signage, the county said.

Rodríguez became El Paso County attorney in 1993 and served for 17 years.

He later represented District 29 in the Texas Senate from 2011 to 2021.

During nearly three decades in public service, Rodríguez worked on issues including public safety, education, health care, economic development and environmental protection, according to the county.
