Lubbock-Cooper ISD voters to decide on property tax rate increase

  • October 22, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Voters in Lubbock-Cooper ISD are getting a say in the district’s property tax rate.

The board of trustees wants to raise it by three cents, to a total just shy of $1.20 per $100 valuation.

The district reports if voters agree, this would raise payments on the average Lubbock-Cooper home by about $65 per year.

It would also raise nearly $4 million a year in revenue to support teacher pay and basic school operations.

Parent reaction

One parent in the Lubbock-Cooper district said he is a big believer in the public school system and says this tax rate is necessary for the success of students.

“Because those students sitting in Cooper, sitting in Friendship, sitting in LISD, they are our next workforce. They’re our next entrepreneurs, our next nurses, our next teachers. And so, as long as we can continue to make public schools strong and great, it will make our communities even greater,” he said.

Chamber endorsement

The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, alongside its community partners, held a news conference this morning endorsing the adoption of Prop A.
