Proceeds from the Haunted Trail help fund medical care for the gardens’ animal ambassadors like Licorice the King Snake featured on First Edition.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Things are getting a little spooky at the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center this Halloween season, and the scares are helping some very special residents!

The gardens are inviting thrill-seekers to experience their Haunted Trail Walks, where ghosts, witches and unexpected surprises await visitors along a quarter-mile nature trail after dark.

This story continues below.

The guided adventure takes visitors through the gardens, where they never know what might be lurking around the next corner. After the spooky stroll, guests can enjoy a hayride back and refreshments.

But there’s more to this Halloween attraction than a few good scares.

Proceeds from the Haunted Trail help fund medical care for the gardens’ animal ambassadors, including the reptiles and birds that call the nature center home.

For families looking for something a little less frightening, the gardens also have a Halloween Hay Maze made from 150 bales of hay. The maze, decorated in partnership with the Ocean Drive Garden Club, is included with regular garden admission.

The Haunted Trail is not recommended for children younger than 9.
