A Guardian article was published recently detailing the story of the Chair of the El Paso Republican Party, Michael Aboud, and his time in comedian Sacha Baron Cohen’s newest film.

Most probably know Cohen as his satirical characters Borat or Bruno but older audiences will know him by the character he is reprising in his newest film ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’ If you saw the trailer for Cohen’s newest project, El Pasoans with a keen eye probably noticed Michael Aboud in it. Those who are familiar with Sacha Baron Cohen’s particular brand of satire were probably immediately aware of what to expect from Abouds appearance in the film. If you’re not aware, it is definitely not good for Michael Aboud which is exactly why he’s planning to sue Cohen.

Honestly, the description of what happened is so ridiculous and incredibly embarrassing for El Paso. Here is how The Guardian describes the situation:

“In the film, Michael Aboud is shown taking part in a training programme with another Cohen character, ex-Mossad terrorist expert Col Erran Morad, who instructs Aboud and fellow Maga sympathisers in self-defence techniques including the wearing, over clothes, of protective plastic buttocks. He also schools them in how to fire bullets from the middle of these buttocks by the repeated up and down manipulation of a rubber penis.”

Yeah. Really. I thought this was over exaggerated until I watched the trailer…

Now, Aboud goes on to claim he was told Cohen’s film was entirely fictional but I think most people sitting in a position like Abouds would probably agree not to do something like this. Whether the project was fictional or not. Wearing a gun butt just feels like it doesn’t give a great image no matter what.
