CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi native and Cincinnati Reds catcher Jose Trevino returned home Tuesday to host the second annual Centurion Golf Classic at the Gabe Lozano Golf Center.

The charity event drew golfers from across the Coastal Bend, with proceeds benefiting the athletic department at St. John Paul II Academy — Trevino’s alma mater.

Trevino said the tournament is his way of giving back to the school and community that helped shape him, while inspiring young athletes to dream big.

“Just to raise awareness that there is a good school. John Paul is a great school; it was good for me, good for my family, and I think just giving back to it is one of the most important things for me,” Trevino said.

He added that he plans to continue growing the tournament each year to reach and motivate even more students throughout the Coastal Bend.
