LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Lubbock Police Department will begin rolling out its new fleet over the next few weeks.
On Wednesday, the department released a video of the new 2025 Chevy Tahoes that will soon patrol the Hub City.
“The Tahoe provides the very best for our officers,” Lieutenant Brady Cross with LPD said.
LPD tells us these units are designed to be louder and brighter than ever when they’re trying to get your attention out on the street.
“When we’re driving, lights and sirens should be louder,” Cross said. ”At times, we talk about outrunning our sirens, driving faster than the sound can travel, and it’s our hope that having two sirens will make the public more aware of our presence. As well as additional lighting on the Tahoes. There’s lighting on the side, on the front, on the back, more so than we’ve seen in the past.”
Lubbock officers have been riding around in the same vehicles since 2011.
Although the current fleet is still going strong, the department thought it was time for an upgrade. The current fleet will remain in service.
Lieutenant Cross also said the new vehicles will have a higher resale value, thanks to the sleeker look. Maintenance costs will also be more affordable.
The Lieutenant noted officers will also have some more breathing room, extra space for their equipment, and for any passengers that tag along that day.
“When we have officers in field training, with an FTO riding in the front seat, and an officer in the driver’s seat, historically the laptop mount is set right on the passenger’s legs and makes it very uncomfortable for whoever’s riding in the front.”
LPD hopes to have all 50 vehicles out on the streets by the end of this year, with an additional 47 units updated and outfitted to patrol by next year.
