Student Government announced in an email Thursday that it would be extending its Mav Voter Express service.

The service takes students from the University Center to the Tarrant County Sub-Courthouse in Arlington. The transportation is courtesy of Mount Olive Baptist Church and Bethlehem Baptist Church.

The service is running during the following times:

noon to 5 p.m. Friday8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdaynoon to 5 p.m. Tuesdaynoon to 5 p.m. Oct. 29noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 30

In the email, Student Government cited the loss of the Maverick Activities Center as a polling location and the lack of transportation students might have as the reason for providing the service.

On Sept. 1, Tarrant County commissioners approved a list of early and Election Day voting sites. This reduced the number of sites in Arlington from 59 to 37 for Election Day and from seven to six for early voting.

With the removal of Maverick Activities Center as an early and Election Day voting site, the nearest polling place to campus is now the Tarrant County Sub-Courthouse in Arlington.

The service launched Tuesday, helping over 30 students get to the polls using vans provided by UTA and Mount Olive Baptist Church. Some students who used the vans didn’t have a car and said that having the service helped ease voting stress, according to previous Shorthorn reporting.

Another service, Party Bus to the Polls, will be provided from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday from Arlington Hall to the courthouse as well.

At noon on Oct. 30, the Zeta Chi chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, in partnership with Student Government, UTA NAACP and the Young People’s Alliance, is hosting a walk from The Commons to Brazos Park, according to the fraternity’s Instagram. They will then go to the sub-courthouse together.
