The recent Lubbock porch theft announced by LPD has many worried about their own mail and packages left unattended by their front door. Surprisingly enough, this theft happened where crime is not as often reported as in other parts of the city.
So, what other crimes can citizens around the area keep an eye out for, and how can Lubbock homeowners protect themselves from porch pirates?

To the west and the north, there were also reports of thefts. Each instance included theft of property valued at over $100. The crime reported to the east was money fraud, but that was it, as far as reported crimes in the area.
Protect Yourself From Porch Pirates
All this being said, it’s important to keep your property safe. Nowadays, deliveries are made overnight, no matter the size, which is amazing. The problem is, if you aren’t home to receive the packages, then they’re just sitting at your front porch, ripe for the taking.
LPD decided to help us out by offering tips on keeping our porches safe from thieves when unattended.
For instance, have a friend or family member swing by and take the package for safe keeping until you get home. You can also request that packages be sent to an Amazon pickup location, rather than your home, until you are able to drive over and pick it up.
Another idea is to request permission from your workplace to have packages sent there. Then, you just take them home with you at the end of the day.
Finally, my favorite method is just asking the delivery company to hide the package, if it’s small enough, in creative places. Under the welcome mat, inside a flower pot, or behind some bushes are always some of my go-to hiding places.
