If there’s one thing El Pasoans know, it’s a good burrito. And I’m not talking about those massive burritos stuffed with rice, fries, and everything else you can think of.

I’m talking about the burritos we grew up eating here on the border. A warm flour tortilla, some delicious guisado, maybe a little salsa, and that’s it. Simple, delicious, and sometimes all you need to make your day better.

Well, it turns out New Yorkers are finally discovering what we’ve known all along: El Paso/Juárez-style burritos are something special!

And it’s all thanks to a Borderland chef who’s bringing a little taste of home to Brooklyn.

El Paso Chef Brings Authentic Juárez-Style Burritos to Brooklyn

Chef Alan Delgado grew up along the El Paso/Juárez border, and while his culinary career eventually took him to New York, he never forgot the flavors of home.

That’s what inspired him to open Los Burritos Juárez in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood in August 2025.

Unlike the oversized burritos many Americans are used to, Delgado’s burritos keep things traditional. Think handmade flour tortillas filled with slow-cooked meats, beans, and flavorful guisados.

The menu includes everything from pork simmered in red chile to brisket in salsa verde with potatoes.

And the tortillas? Delgado reportedly spent FOUR YEARS perfecting his recipe to recreate the kind he remembered growing up along the border.

Now that’s dedication to a good burrito!

Brooklyn’s El Paso-Style Burritos Get Michelin Recognition

If you needed proof that these burritos are making an impression in New York, this might do it.

In April 2026, Los Burritos Juárez was added to the prestigious Michelin Guide! The same guide known for recognizing some of the world’s most celebrated restaurants is now shining a spotlight on the kind of burritos we grew up eating in El Paso.

The restaurant has also caught the attention of major New York food publications, including Eater and Time Out New York, with customers lining up to get their hands on Delgado’s handmade tortillas and traditional fillings.

And while being included in the Michelin Guide isn’t the same as earning a Michelin star, it’s still a pretty impressive accomplishment for a small burrito shop with Borderland roots.

New York Is Finally Discovering El Paso’s Burrito Magic

What I love most about this story is that Delgado isn’t trying to reinvent the burrito. He’s introducing New Yorkers to a style of burrito that’s been part of our lives here in El Paso and Juárez for generations.

For us, grabbing a burrito filled with chile rojo, verde, or beans is just another day in the Borderland. But in Brooklyn, those familiar flavors are introducing people to a whole new side of Mexican food.

And I think that’s pretty cool.

Who would’ve thought that something as simple as a homemade flour tortilla and a delicious guisado would be making waves in New York City?

Then again, if you’ve ever had a really good burrito from El Paso or Juárez, you already know what all the fuss is about.
