EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Months after a man was found murdered in his apartment in Northeast El Paso, the victim’s father is urging the public to come forward with information that could lead to an arrest.

Michael Terrell Jenkins was found shot dead in his apartment on the 8700 block of Lawson on March 17 (detectives believe he could’ve been killed in February).

On Friday, KFOX14/CBS4 spoke virtually with Michael’s father, Matt Jenkins, who said that while police work to find leads, he wants to bring awareness to the case, hoping people who might know something– or might have seen or heard something– come forward with information.

“I’d really like to… [help] the public to understand that he was a very real person,” Matt said. “I really want to encourage anyone who might have any information about his death to come forward to help bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Matt described Michael as “very energetic” and a lover of music and people, adding that he was a father of three girls and that after serving in the Army, he was pursuing a career making music.

On Thursday, Michael would’ve celebrated his birthday.

Matt said the family chose to honor him by focusing on recalling happy memories with Michael, including listening to his music and songs he had released on YouTube.

One of the fondest memories Matt has is Michael playing drums at church. “He expressed himself through music,” Matt said.

Back in April, authorities put out a call through Crime Stoppers of El Paso seeking tips, and since then no other information regarding the case has been made public.

Reports made by the El Paso Police Department said Michael’s age was 38; however, Matt said those are wrong, as he would’ve turned 30 on Thursday.

As the Jenkins family continues to grieve, Matt wants closure.

“We believe wholeheartedly that someone knows something,” Matt said. “And I just would like to appeal to their sense of decency that they would come forward and share whatever information that they have related to his untimely death.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 915-832-4400.
