The Plano Police Department has identified the driver of a fatal crash that killed a passenger Nov. 1 as Ricardo Gonzalez-Castanon.
Gonzalez-Castanon was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and is being held at the Collin County Detention Center. The Plano Police Traffic Unit is investigating.
Officers and Plano Fire-Rescue personnel responded about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1 to a single-vehicle crash near 14th Street and Los Rios Boulevard.
A white Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on La Paz Drive approaching 14th Street when the driver attempted to turn left onto eastbound 14th Street, according to a preliminary investigation. The driver accelerated through the turn, causing the vehicle to lose traction. The driver overcorrected while trying to regain control, and the vehicle rotated before its right side struck a wooden power pole, causing significant damage to the passenger side.
The passenger, Alex Rangle, 25, of Plano, was pronounced dead at the scene by Plano Fire-Rescue.
