With six weeks still remaining between now and what could be the final weekend ever of NCAA conference championships, so many schools still have plenty to play for, but one player will be shifting their focus to the 2027 NFL Draft a little earlier than expected. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, top offensive tackle prospect Trevor Goosby suffered a knee injury this weekend and will miss the rest of his senior season, as a result.
Originally a three-star offensive tackle recruit out of Melissa HS (TX), Goosby’s first offers came from smaller schools like UT-San Antonio and nearby North Texas. He began getting interest and offers from some Power conference schools like Kansas and Oklahoma State, and near the end of his junior year, Goosby committed to a close-to-home Power 5 option in TCU. Early into the summer, though, the Longhorns came calling and floated him an offer. He scheduled an official visit for two weeks later, and at the end of the three-day courting ritual, he flipped his commitment to Texas.
Goosby had a lot of work to do once he arrived in Austin. He only made two game appearances as a true freshman and only saw garbage-time snaps and special teams work for most of his sophomore campaign, sitting behind future first-round pick Kelvin Banks Jr. Late in the season, though, Banks exited a rivalry game against Texas A&M early with an injury, and Goosby was tapped to fill in,. He would be asked to start at left tackle for the team’s conference championship against Georgia, as well.
In the College Football Playoff, Goosby filled in for another future NFL draft pick in right tackle Cameron Williams after Williams exited the school’s first-round game against Clemson with an injury. He started at right tackle for the Longhorns’ two last playoff games against Arizona State and Ohio State before getting eliminated.
Having proven he could handle work on the first-team offense under the brightest of lights, Goosby opened up his third year in Austin as the starting left tackle, and he’s held the role ever since. He earned first-team All-SEC honors in his first season as a full-time starter, and as the blindside blocker for the player many predicted might be the No. 1 overall pick of the 2027 NFL Draft, Goosby came into the 2026 campaign billed as a likely Day 1 pick himself.
ESPN’s Jordan Reid ranked Goosby as the fourth-best offensive tackle prospect and the 30th-best prospect overall just over a week ago. Pro Football Focus (subscription required) reset their big board three weeks ago, and Goosby checked in as the top overall offensive line prospect and the seventh-best prospect in the class. Listed by the school at 6-foot-7 and 325 pounds, the 21-year-old boasts elite size without sacrificing any athleticism or movement.
Goosby came into the season surrounded by expectations that he would become one of the first offensive lineman taken in the draft. He was sure to have challengers, though, as Texas stumbled recently, losing two games in a row, before returning to the win column this weekend.
Now, both Goosby and his team will have new challenges to confront. The Longhorns will look to stay alive in competition for a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff, and Goosby will need to work his way back to full health. The injury will almost certainly impact his draft stock, and he could always choose to return to school if it damages his prospects too much. Until a clearer picture and timeline are produced, though, it’s difficult to determine how severe the impact will be.
