Recent polling shows a competitive race between Abbott and Hinojosa as Texans head to the polls.

Governor Greg Abbott is seeking a fourth term in office after first being elected in 2014.

The Republican governor is campaigning on his record leading the state, with issues like border security, public safety and the Texas economy among his priorities.

As early voting continues, Abbott is working to convince Texans to give him another four years in office.

“There’s one issue we’re focused on, it’s the issue I was here today about, that’s voter turnout,” Gov. Abbott said. “Voter turnout is very high in Democrat precincts across the state. We want to make sure that we have very high voter turnout in Smith County and across the entire state.”

But Democratic State Representative Gina Hinojosa is hoping voters are ready for a change in leadership.

Hinojosa, who represents part of Austin in the Texas House, is challenging Abbott after more than a decade of Republican leadership in the governor’s office.

Her campaign has focused on issues including public education, affordability and the cost of living.

Recent polling has shown a competitive race between the two candidates, with both working to reach voters in the final days before the election.

“This is a change election year,” Hinajosa said. “We hear it everywhere. People just want change. It’s not that people all have said in Team Democrat. No, they just don’t like status quo.”

The two candidates are now making their final appeals to voters as Texans decide who will lead the state for the next four years.

Early voting runs through October 30th, giving voters several more days to cast their ballots before Election Day.
