The San Antonio-raised actress and others in the cast began filming the show’s third season this month in Fort Worth after a yearlong hiatus. The show wrapped its second season last August.

Chávez, the actress behind the show’s widowed character Ariana Medina, said in a recent interview with Us magazine that she would have loved “to come back soon,” but added, “Now we’re here … It’s like we never left.”

“Landman” follows oil worker Tommy Norris as he navigates corporate liability, workplace accidents, cartel disputes and family feuds in West Texas oil fields. The series is based on the “Boomtown” podcast and joins Taylor Sheridan’s works that also include “Yellowstone,” “Mayor of Kingstown,” “Tulsa King” and “Lioness.”

Season 2 left Ariana recovering from a violent attack, but Chávez, 24, said her character is now “very different” from who she was at the end of the previous season. Ariana is no longer grieving, Chávez said.

“We are seeing who she really is after grief,” said the longtime San Antonian. “Grief never goes away, but who is she now? Very different from the person that she was before grief, but we didn’t know who she was before grief. So, we’re getting to see those sparks.”

Paramount+ has not yet announced a premiere date for its third season.

Chávez said Ariana is now going to be an office manager in the family oil business. But speaking about what more is to come for her character, she said she’s “going into it blind — just like the audience will.”

“She’s going to be very much involved, and I think that’s something so exciting for Ariana to also have her own thing but also building it with her partner,” Chávez told Us. “Right now, I can say that Cooper and Ariana are in a great place. I’m excited to see what other bumps in the road there’s going to be this season because there always are.”
