WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton visited Wichita Falls on Monday for a get-out-the-vote event at McBride’s Steakhouse as election season winds down.
Hundreds of people attended the event, with some having to listen from outside the venue.
The event aimed to encourage Texans to participate in the election process and make their voices heard as Election Day approaches.
Wichita County Republican Chair Larry Lewis said events like this can help motivate people to vote.
“You have to get people excited to get other people and themselves to go out and vote. If we have historically had terrible voting percentages of registered voters, it’s terribly low. This year, with what we’ve been doing, we now have a much greater percentage of people voting,” Lewis said.
Event participant Lon Munsey said the gathering allowed attendees to hear from leaders and learn more about the issues.
“Got to hear about everybody and what everybody’s doing and knowing what the opponents are doing and what we need to stand up for as a red state,” Munsey said.
Michael Banner, who protested the event, also emphasized the importance of voters educating themselves before casting their ballots.
“We should know what’s going on. We should have an active, informed decision. We shouldn’t be complacent about the fact that every single choice we make in this country is almost an illusion,” Banner said.
Election Day is Nov. 3. Voters will have the opportunity to decide which candidates and issues best represent their interests.
