New Framework Provides 850 Lighting II Aircraft Over 10 Years
The Department of War and Lockheed Martin have announced a transformative framework agreement for multiyear F-35 Lightning II production and sustainment. This framework includes 850 U.S. aircraft over 10 years with associated initial spares, 10 years of modification kits and sustainment, and international customer orders across Lots 21-30, at a continued production rate of 156 aircraft per year. If granted multiyear authority and associated appropriations in the coming months, the F-35 Joint Program Office and Lockheed Martin will work to finalize contract terms, pricing, and schedules through a formal contract award, which will fulfill the government’s imperative for a predictable, affordable, and resilient fighter jet enterprise. This effort is expected to save taxpayers billions of dollars over F-35’s lifecycle through long-term pricing and industry volume discounts the company said.

The B-21 Raider Could Take On The Roll With Collaborative Combat Aircraft
The Air Force is looking into ways it could add air-to-air combat capabilities to its bombers as part of efforts adjacent to its latest fighter force structure plans. The report, titled “Long-Term USAF Fighter Force Structure” and submitted to lawmakers Oct. 16, said that “developing air-to-air capabilities on bombers” is being considered as a way to expand the service’s combat capabilities. The service has raised the possibility of the B-21 Raider, specifically, taking on an air-to-air role, and potentially doing so in cooperation with Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) drones. Air Force fighters have long carried out air-to-ground strikes, but bombers have not traditionally performed air-to-air missions.

Texas Triangle Of Cities Home To 20 Million People
Archer Aviation has released plans for three air taxi networks serving Austin, Dallas–Fort Worth and Houston with the goal of increasing connectivity between major airports, business districts, and coastal destinations in the fastest growing megaregion in the United States. The Texas Triangle is home to more than 20 million people and several of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country. Commuters in Houston, Dallas–Fort Worth and Austin lose days each year sitting in traffic, with congestion costing the state billions in lost time, productivity, and infrastructure costs. Archer’s planned air taxi networks in the state are designed to give Texans an option to skip over traffic on its all-electric Midnight air taxi, turning 60–90-minute drives to major airports, business districts and major destinations into 10–20-minute flights.

SpaceX’s New Starfall Reentry Capsule Tests Rocket Cargo Capability
The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has tested Rocket Cargo point-to-point delivery (P2D) capabilities aboard a commercial rideshare launch from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on Oct. 20. The Air Force is testing whether military supplies can withstand the rigors of spaceflight aboard SpaceX’s new Starfall reentry capsule, part of a Pentagon effort to explore using commercial space vehicles to deliver critical equipment to forces around the world. Rocket Cargo is an AFRL research and development project to determine the viability of using large commercial liquid-propellant rockets to rapidly deliver materiel anywhere on the globe on tactical timelines. The recent Rocket Cargo test used a SpaceX Starfall capsule with instrumentation to measure temperature, shock, and vibration of the cargo environments. The capsule carried AFRL agile cargo pod designs built to host various loads for P2D anywhere on Earth.

The Airplane Impacted Power Lines Along The South Side Of A Roadway
On October 7, 2026, at 0952 central daylight time, an Lancair IV-P airplane, N5SV, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Haslet, Texas. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) part 91 personal flight. A review of commercially available Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) data revealed that the flight departed Hicks Airfield (T67), Fort Worth, Texas, about 0951. ADS-B data showed that the airplane climbed to 875 ft mean sea level (msl) before it entered a left turn. The airplane climbed to 1,000 ft msl and slowed to 84 kts ground speed before it descended.

Refurbished Cessna Caravan Will Carry Doctors, Missionaries To Remote Areas
A newly dedicated Cessna Caravan sitting on the tarmac at Mission Aviation Fellowship’s Nampa, Idaho, base will soon begin a long journey to a new home in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the organization says it will help connect remote communities and support medical and humanitarian work.
