The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County will offer complimentary rides to and from the polls on Election Day, Nov. 3.

How it works

Riders can receive the free ride by showing their voter registration card to a METRO operator or fare inspector when boarding, according to an Oct. 23 news release.

Available fare services for the offer include:

METRORail

Local bus routes

METROLift

METRO curb2curb

Community Connector

Complimentary rides are only available on Election Day. Regular fares still apply during the early voting period, officials said.

Quote of note

“Every voter deserves the opportunity to make their voice heard, and transportation should never stand in the way,” said METRO Board Chair Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock via news release. “I want to thank Mayor [John] Whitmire for his continued leadership and for continuing this partnership. METRO is proud to do its part by helping Houston-area residents get to the polls and exercise one of our most important civic rights.”

One more thing

METRO leaders encourage riders to plan their Election Day trips using the transit authority’s Trip Planner and to confirm polling locations before travel. To see a list of polling locations near you, visit your county’s election services website or check out Community Impact’s voter guide.

The polls will be open on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
