President Donald Trump rallied at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center on Tuesday night behind Republican U.S. Senate nominee Ken Paxton exactly one week from Election Day.
“We’re going to elect one of the greatest attorney generals in the entire country, and quite frankly, the greatest attorney general in the history of Texas,” said Trump.
In his fourth trip to Texas since September, President Trump is hoping that his endorsement, which likely helped Paxton defeat incumbent Senator John Cornyn in the primary, will push the state’s attorney general over the edge against Democratic nominee James Talarico. In what’s turned into the most expensive non-presidential race in American history, many polls show the state representative in the lead.
“I’m just am not leaning toward a socialist side when I have little kids that are gonna grow up in that,” said a voter to NewsWest 9.
Trump also stuck by his pick, while he broke some energy news as well.
“Tonight, I’m officially terminating Biden’s expensive and unnecessary methane regulations to save consumers and energy producers 45 billion dollars in costs, unlock vast quantities of Texas natural gas,” said Trump.
Backed by a wave of Republicans, such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Congressman Brandon Gill, Paxton told a sea of MAGA voters that the midterms depend on West Texas.
“You are the most Republican area of our state, so I’m going to ask you for the next seven days, get every Republican out to vote and we will win Texas,” said Paxton.
Talarico was also in the city at the same time with a rally of his own.
