A former North Texas TV reporter will now be covering big games on the Central Texas airwaves. Abbi Bennett recently announced on social media that she landed a new gig in Austin.

Bennett said she will be joining CBS Austin as the broadcast station’s latest sports anchor and reporter. The Texas native previously worked at NBC5 Dallas-Fort Worth, which she bid goodbye to and thanked her colleagues and viewers for all their support over the past year.

“Dallas, you’ve been so good to me this last year! Getting to work in my hometown at a station I grew up watching is something I’ll always be grateful for,” Bennett said. “This chapter has brought some incredible people, opportunities, and memories, making it a tough one to close. But as one door closes, another one opens and I’m excited for what’s ahead!”

Originally from Dallas, Bennett told MySA she started her career at a news station in Colorado Springs after graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 2022. She worked at FOX21 News Colorado for three years and after her contract ended, she landed a job back home in Dallas at NBC5.

Now, she explained she’s looking forward to her “next adventure in Austin!” The OU alum will soon be taking on sports in Longhorn territory, as she joked to CBS Austin’s sports director Bob Ballou in her post, “can I still call it OU/Texas?”

Bennett’s announcement comes just two weeks after CBS Austin sports anchor and reporter Darby Brown left the station in early October. After 10 years of reporting in Texas, including two at CBS Austin, Brown landed a new role in her hometown of Phoenix, Arizona.
