LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Patchy fog is blanketing areas on the Caprock this morning, but don’t worry — it won’t stick around long. The fog is not significantly impacting visibility for everyone and should clear after sunrise as temperatures climb.

Southerly winds remained in place overnight, trapping moisture under a temperature inversion around 4-5 a.m. This setup allowed patchy fog and low cloud cover to develop across Caprock areas, before burning off around mid-morning. The rest of today is looking much warmer, with highs reaching the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Wednesday brings a cloudier picture. The inversion will persist through late afternoon, keeping mostly cloudy skies in place for much of the day. This means the temperature forecast is tricky — if clouds clear earlier, highs should reach the mid 70s to near 80. If clouds stick around through sunset, highs may struggle to get out of the 60s, similar to today.

The pattern changes Thursday as moisture from Tropical Storm Vance moves in from the south. Mid-level southwest flow will help push that tropical moisture over the region. Skies will become overcast through Thursday afternoon, with rain beginning late in the day and pushing northward through the evening. Rain remains expected through Friday as well.
