Ingleside ISD is receiving $460,000 from the Port of Corpus Christi to help high school students gain the skills and training needed for careers in the Coastal Bend’s maritime and industrial industries.

The investment will support the Port Industries & Maritime Academy at Ingleside High School, giving students opportunities to explore careers in skilled trades, technology and other industries connected to the port.

The partnership will be recognized during a ceremonial check presentation on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. at Ingleside High School.

Through the academy, students will gain hands-on experience, work with industry professionals and have opportunities to earn certifications that could help them enter the workforce after graduation.

Ingleside ISD Superintendent Scott Kilgore said the goal is to help students prepare for careers without leaving the region.

“This partnership allows us to connect what students learn in the classroom with the opportunities available right here in our region,” Kilgore said.

The district says the academy is the only program of its kind in San Patricio County.

The $460,000 investment will help pay for classroom equipment, specialized training, career exploration activities, field experiences and professional development for teachers.

It will also help connect students with colleges, workforce training programs and potential employers.

Port of Corpus Christi CEO Kent Britton said the partnership is part of the port’s commitment to preparing the next generation of workers.

“The Port of Corpus Christi is proud to partner with Ingleside ISD through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Clean Ports Program to support the Port Industries & Maritime Academy,” Britton said.

District officials say the academy will help students explore career options while preparing them for jobs needed throughout the Coastal Bend.
