As Tropical Storm Vance continues to progress toward the southwestern coast of Mexico, moisture from the storm is set to break off from its center and move into Texas on Thursday. The tropical system is expected to bring flooding to parts of West Texas, where isolated rainfall totals in some spots could reach more than 4 inches.

Farther east, the San Antonio area is also expecting rain on Thursday and Friday. However, activity will be more scattered, resulting in off-and-on showers and weak storms starting Thursday morning. Rainfall totals in San Antonio are likely to stay under a half-inch, with some higher totals possible across the Hill Country.

But will the rain be over and done with by Halloween trick-or-treating? Or will the kids need an umbrella to go along with their costume? Here’s a close look at what to expect on Oct. 31.

San Antonio Halloween forecast

Saturday morning (6 a.m. to 11 a.m.): While the rainfall could move off to the north by early Saturday, a few weather models do show some shower redevelopment early in the day. Overall rain chances will be near 20% to 30% before 9 a.m., so it may be a good idea to have an umbrella just in case if you have morning plans outdoors.

Otherwise, comfortable weather is expected as temperatures will hover in the 60s early in the morning, with temps rising only into the 70s by 10 a.m. Winds will be light, moving in from the east at 5 mph.

Midday (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.): Moisture will continue to progress north and eastward, away from San Antonio, causing rain chances to fall even more. Expect only a 10% chance of an isolated shower in San Antonio during the afternoon, with skies likely to become partly sunny.

Temperatures will rise more steadily during the afternoon, possibly reaching 82 or 83 degrees by mid-afternoon. That would be about 5 degrees above average for Halloween, but it is well short of the Oct. 31 record of 90 degrees set in 2024.

Trick-or-treating (5 p.m. to 9 p.m.): By the time you’re heading out with the kids for trick-or-treating, the weather is expected to be quite favorable across South-Central Texas. While an isolated shower can’t be completely ruled out, overall odds will be less than 10% with partly cloudy skies overhead. You can most likely leave the umbrella at home.

Temperatures will also be comfortable, likely dropping into the upper 70s by 6 p.m. before reaching 75 degrees by 8 p.m. Later that night, overnight low temperatures are expected to bottom out in the mid-60s. Winds will also stay calm throughout the evening, barely blowing in from the east at less than 5 mph.
