Lubbock police share Halloween safety tips ahead of Saturday trick-or-treating

  • October 28, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Families who plan to trick-or-treat Saturday should wear bright or reflective clothing, according to Kasie Davis, public information officer for the Lubbock Police Department.

Wear bright or reflective clothing

“First and foremost, wear some sort of bright or reflective costumes or clothing because if you are going to be out walking in a neighborhood on streets on sidewalks, we just want to make sure that any vehicles in the area, the drivers of those vehicles are able to see you,” Davis said.

A glow stick or flashlight also works for those without reflective gear.

Davis said both drivers and walkers need to watch out for each other.

Travel in small groups

“Another important tip is try to travel in a small group, right? We don’t want necessarily herds of folks traveling, but maybe a group of five to six people,” Davis said. “Again, that makes it easier for motorists to see those trick or treaters, the parents. That’s important.”

Davis also said people should look both ways before crossing the street.

“This seems like very basic information, but these are good tips to remember as we start to get into the Halloween weekend,” she said.

Pick a meeting spot and check candy

For families with young children, Davis suggested picking a meeting spot in case they get separated.

“It’s similar to if you’re going out at a concert or the South Plains Fair, whatever the case may be, you know, always plan that rendezvous point just so you have a location where you know you can meet up,” Davis said.

Families also may want to check every piece of candy before anyone takes a bite. Anything that does not look right should be thrown away.

Saturday plans

Texas Tech also plays Saturday. Davis suggested trick-or-treating earlier in the evening.

Several trunk-or-treats are planned around Lubbock for those who prefer to skip the streets.

Reporting suspicious activity

“So the Lubbock Police Department, we want people to enjoy their Halloween, but we want them to enjoy it safely,” Davis said.

People who see something suspicious can call the department’s non-emergency line.
