HONDO, Texas – Police are sending a reminder to drivers to keep an eye out for deer this “rutting season.” It comes after an officer got into a scary crash on Wednesday.

A Hondo patrol officer was driving around when a deer suddenly jumped into the roadway, crashing into the vehicle’s windshield. As shocking as it looks, police tell us the officer was not injured. Even the deer got up and jumped a fence afterwards.

Police say deer become more active and unpredictable during rut season, which is when deer are mating. The department is encouraging everyone to slow down and remain alert.
