LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Lubbock High Westerners have a chance to earn their third consecutive win this evening when they take on the first-place Amarillo Sandies this evening. The game will be streaming on KCBD.com, the End Zone App, and the Streaming App.
Lubbock High’s win streak began two weeks ago when the Westerners overcame a 28-point deficit to beat Caprock 42-28 on “Thursday Night Throwdown”. Last week, they made it two beating Frenship Memorial 45-31. Running back Nathan Johnson had 23 carries for 233 yards and two touchdowns.
With victories over Tascosa, Abilene, and Frenship, the Amarillo Sandies currently sit in first place with a 7-1 record. They are unbeaten in defense, and their defense has only allowed 18.6 yards per game this season. Their lead rusher Sy Richardson averaged 101.9 yards per game.
“They’re very balanced, andthey’re very physical…I think they’re a run heavy team, but they might come out and sling it on us. I’m not sure what they’re planning, but I think we’re prepared for both,” said Lubbock High head football coach Juan Rodriguez. “I think this time, our game plan has been to be balanced both on offense and at the same time be aware that on defense we’re going to have to stop the run, but we know that they can throw the ball well as well.”
The game kicks off 7 p.m. at PlainsCapital Park.
