AUSTIN, Texas — A handgun reported stolen from a Texas state trooper was recovered during the investigation into a shooting and kidnapping at The Domain, according to a newly obtained arrest affidavit.
Leonel Jesus Galvan Hernandez, 20, was arrested following the Oct. 25 shooting outside Macy’s at 3311 Esperanza Crossing in North Austin.
According to the affidavit, Galvan Hernandez allegedly confronted his ex-girlfriend and a man she was with after repeatedly contacting the woman and threatening her family if she refused to share her location.
Investigators said the woman and the man had attended church before going to The Domain for lunch. As they attempted to leave, Galvan Hernandez allegedly approached them in the parking lot and shot the man multiple times.

The victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries but was reported to be in stable condition Monday.
After the shooting, Galvan Hernandez allegedly forced the woman into his vehicle at gunpoint and drove away.
According to court documents, he instructed the woman to tell police the shooting was a robbery and allegedly took several personal belongings, including jewelry, a cellphone, and a handbag. The woman was later released unharmed.
Galvan Hernandez turned himself in to police later that evening.
During an interview with investigators, he initially denied involvement but later acknowledged firing the gun, claiming he believed the victim was reaching for a weapon, according to the affidavit.
Investigators later recovered a Sig Sauer M17 handgun and some of the woman’s belongings. Police determined the firearm was a service weapon belonging to a Texas state trooper that had been reported stolen in September 2026.
The affidavit does not explain how Galvan Hernandez obtained the weapon.
Galvan Hernandez faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of aggravated kidnapping and one count of aggravated robbery.
Austin police previously described the incident as isolated and said there was no ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact APD’s Aggravated Assault Unit at 512-974-5177.
