It’s not every day that somebody gets a perfect score for something, especially when that something involves money.
I don’t think I’ve ever received a perfect score, a gold star, or even a pat on the back for anything involving finances.
But Lubbock Independent School District just pulled off something pretty stinkin’ impressive.

According to KCBD, LISD earned a perfect score on the Texas Education Agency’s Financial Rating System of Texas (FIRST).
What’s even more impressive?
This is the 25th year in a row that LISD has received an ‘A’, or a Superior Achievement, rating.
That’s quite the winning streak, guys. Great job!
What Does It All Mean, Exactly?
Basically, they look at whether or not districts are making wise and responsible decisions with their resources.
The state wants to be sure that schools are properly handling taxpayer dollars and putting as much money as possible toward education.
Superintendent Dr. Kathy Rollo (a former teacher of mine and one of the sweetest people in the world) gave big props to the district’s commitment to managing taxpayer dollars wisely, and Lubbock ISD Chief Financial Officer Dr. Dewayne Wilkins credited the district’s financial and business operations teams for the big win.

Does This Mean EVERYTHING Is Perfect?
Not necessarily.
This rating is only for financial accountability. It’s not an academic performance score.
The score doesn’t mean that every classroom has everything it needs, or that every teacher is satisfied, or that every student has a straight A report card.
If only!
But it does mean Lubbock performed exceptionally well under the state’s financial accountability measures, and that’s definitely a good thing.
School funding can be incredibly complicated, and this is certainly something worth recognizing.
Congratulations to all the great people behind the scenes who look out not only for Lubbock kids but also for your tax dollars.
Now, if someone could drop by and teach ME how to get a perfect score on my personal finances…I would really appreciate that.
