SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Patience is about to pay off at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange on the Northwest Side.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) says two new flyover ramps will open by Monday, November 17. After those two ramps open, only one will remain under construction until it opens sometime in 2026.

The flyover ramps opening in the coming days will give drivers easier access to both directions of Loop 1604 when driving on eastbound I-10. Once opened, a total of seven flyover ramps will have opened at the busy interchange over the last 11 months.

December 2024 – first flyover, connecting eastbound Loop 1604 to westbound I-10
June 2025 – second flyover, connecting westbound I-10 to westbound Loop 1604
August 2025 – third flyover, connecting westbound Loop 1604 to eastbound I-10
September 2025 – fourth flyover, connecting eastbound Loop 1604 to eastbound I-10
October 2025 – fifth flyover, connecting westbound I-10 to eastbound Loop 1604

Drivers can access the flyover ramp on I-10 just past La Cantera Parkway and enter the westbound mainlanes of Loop 1604 after La Cantera Parkway and the eastbound mainlanes after Lockhill Selma Rd.

The closures listed below are required to complete flyover work and will take place from 9 p.m. Friday, November 14, at 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday, November 17, weather permitting.

Nightly, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

–      Eastbound I-10 two, right mainlanes

–      Eastbound I-10 frontage road from Via La Cantera to Loop 1604

–      Eastbound I-10 frontage road from La Cantera Parkway to Via La Cantera

–      Westbound I-10 to eastbound Loop 1604 flyover ramp

–      Eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road right lane from La Cantera Parkway to Valero Way

–      Valero Way intersection at Loop 1604

–      Eastbound and westbound Loop 1604 frontage road at I-10

 Daily, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

–      Eastbound I-10 two, right mainlanes

–      Eastbound I-10 frontage road from Via La Cantera to Loop 1604

–      Eastbound I-10 frontage road from La Cantera Parkway to Via La Cantera

–      Eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road right lane from La Cantera Parkway to Valero Way

–      Valero Way intersection at Loop 1604

–      Eastbound and westbound Loop 1604 frontage road at I-10

Westbound I-10 and both directions of Loop 1604 will remain open all weekend.

TxDOT is committed to scheduling construction that creates the least impact to traffic and allows work to be completed safely. Drivers are encouraged to consider the construction schedule as they plan commutes and keep this important information in mind:

Eastbound (EB) Loop 1604 Frontage Road

Drivers on the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road looking to continue through the I-10 interchange will keep right to enter the eastbound I-10 frontage road. Drivers will use the U-turn at UTSA Boulevard to enter the WB I-10 frontage road and follow it back to the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road.

Westbound (WB) Loop 1604 Frontage Road

Drivers on the westbound Loop 1604 frontage road will keep right to enter the westbound I-10 frontage road and then use the U-turn at La Cantera Parkway to enter the eastbound I-10 frontage road. They will then enter the eastbound I-10 mainlanes via the entrance ramp after La Cantera Parkway and then exit via the De Zavala Road exit ramp. Those looking to return westbound Loop 1604 will use the U-turn at De Zavala Road to enter the westbound I-10 frontage road and enter the westbound I-10 mainlanes via the first entrance ramp. Drivers will follow signs to westbound Loop 1604 and use the flyover ramp.

EB I-10 Frontage Road

Drivers on the eastbound I-10 frontage road will enter the eastbound I-10 mainlanes via the entrance ramp after La Cantera Parkway and then exit via the De Zavala Road exit. Those looking to access Loop 1604 will use the U-turn at De Zavala Road to enter the westbound I-10 frontage road. Drivers headed for eastbound Loop 1604 will remain on the westbound I-10 frontage road and keep right to enter the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road. They may enter the eastbound Loop 1604 mainlanes via the first available entrance ramp. Drivers headed for westbound Loop 1604 will enter the westbound I-10 mainlanes via the first entrance ramp after the U-turn at De Zavala Road and follow signs to westbound Loop 1604 via the flyover ramp.
