EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso man has been sentenced to ten years in prison after stealing vehicles, selling land and mobile homes he did not own, and passing bad checks across the county from 2022 to 2026, according to the 34th District Attorney’s Office.
On Tuesday, Oct. 13, 31-year-old Alex Montoya pleaded guilty to nine counts of theft of property valued at $2,500 to $30,000, three counts of theft of property valued at $30,000 to $150,000, two counts of forgery of a financial instrument, and tampering with a government record, the DA’s office said.

Additionally, he also admitted guilt in several unindicted cases as part of the plea agreement officials said.
The DA’s office stated Montoya’s probation for a prior evading arrest conviction was revoked to 10 years. All sentences will run concurrently.
“For years, Alex Montoya treated other people’s property as his own to sell, including their
vehicles, their land, and even their homes,” District Attorney James Montoya said. “Every one of
these cases represents a family or business that lost something they worked hard for. This sentence holds him accountable for the full scope of that harm, and it reflects what’s possible when our office, the County Attorney’s Office, and law enforcement agencies across the county work together.”
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the El Paso Police Department, and the Socorro Police
Department investigated the cases.
Assistant District Attorney Erin Delaney and Assistant County Attorney Evelyn Espinoza
prosecuted the cases.
