Polls show a tight race between Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Democratic state Rep. James Talarico, making it the nation’s most expensive race.

According to campaign finance reports, Talarico’s campaign has raised more than six-and-a-half times what Paxton raised. Most of Talarico’s money comes from small-dollar donors giving less than $200 at a time.

Most of it comes from outside Texas, while most of Paxton’s contributors are in the state.

Another interesting number is how much outside groups, like Super PACs, are spending on the race.

As of Monday, they’ve spent $300 million to support Paxton, and $80 million has gone to Talarico.

Essentially, those outside groups have spent much more on Paxton. In fact, the largest number in all the data is the money spent by those Super PACs against Talarico.

These numbers are expected to rise as we get closer to Election Day.
