Entering bi-district games, several Dallas-area players have flown under the radar this season. Here are eight players who deserve more attention entering the first round of the postseason.

QB DeShawn Edwards, Mansfield Lake Ridge

The junior has been prolific for Lake Ridge, leading his team to an 8-2 overall record and a 5-1 District 7-6A finish. Edwards is a dual-threat quarterback, recording 1,899 passing yards for 20 scores while also contributing 1,130 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. He was named The Dallas Morning News’ Week 11 offensive player of the week after passing for 357 yards and six touchdowns in a 69-34 win over Fort Worth Boswell. Edwards will be vital in Mansfield Lake Ridges’ early test against Euless Trinity, which is also 8-2, on Friday.

RB Bryce Robinson, Prosper

Alongside quarterback Braeden Imhoff, Robinson leads Prosper’s offense. The senior has 1,163 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 154 carries. He’s helped Prosper to a 9-1 record and will be crucial on Thursday night, facing a 5-5 Hebron squad.

QB Nelson Peterson Jr., Forney

Peterson has 1,685 passing yards — the 20th best in Class 6A in the Dallas area — and 17 touchdowns this season. He also has 224 rushing yards and four scores on the ground. Last Thursday, Peterson had a 45-yard touchdowns run with under five minutes remaining to help defeat Rockwall-Heath 42-28. The three-star senior is in his second year on varsity at Forney. He has received eight offers from programs such as Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Wake Forest and Utah State, but he has made a college decision yet.

QB Trey Wright, Frisco Lone Star

Wright, a sophomore, is a dual-threat quarterback who commands Lone Star’s offense. He has 2,372 passing yards — the fourth best in Class 5A in the Dallas area — for 28 touchdowns. Wright has also contributed 1,017 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 12.25 yards per carry. He’s only thrown four interceptions this season, pushing Lone Star to its second undefeated season in school history.

RB Damarian “Fat” Robinson, West Mesquite

The junior has 1,125 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns this season, helping West Mesquite to a 9-1 finish and an 8-0 district record. West Mesquite clinched District 6-5AI’s top seed after Robinson rushed for 186 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries in a 35-12 win over Carrollton Newman Smith. He’s hoping to have the same impact when West Mesquite plays Frisco on Friday.

QB Jayden Maples, Frisco Wakeland

Maples had 2,194 yards — the sixth best in Class 5A in the Dallas area — and 26 touchdowns, pushing Wakeland to a 9-1 overall record. The three-star senior has three offers from Arkansas State, Southern Miss and Stephen F. Austin, but has not committed yet.

QB Graylyn Fry, Frisco Panther Creek

Fry has 2,379 passing yards this season, good for 30 touchdowns. The senior was the top passing leader in all of Class 4A and 3A, helping Panther Creek to a 8-2 record. He will be the key as Panther Creek opens the postseason against Dallas Carter (6-4) on Thursday.

QB Cayson Maupin, Sunnyvale

Maupin is one of the best players in Class 4A, totaling 2,093 passing yards and 26 touchdowns while only throwing three interceptions. The junior had the third most passing yards in Class 4A and 3A, and will be instrumental as Sunnyvale works to win its first state championship.
