1. Texas businesses, state officials react to federal THC ban
The passing of the funding bill that reopened the federal government after a 43-day shutdown comes with a few ripple effects to a large industry here in Texas.
The federal spending bill effectively bans most hemp-derived THC products across the country and within Texas, placing a 0.4 milligrams total THC cap per container.
2. Lack of access to health care results in rise in cervical cancer cases
Texas has one of the highest cervical cancer rates in the country, with nine or more people out of every 100,000 testing positive.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, Hispanic women are more likely to be diagnosed with it in Texas, and Black women have the highest mortality rate.
3. Mack Rhoades leaves role as CFP selection committee chairman and takes leave of absence as Baylor AD
Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades has stepped down from his role as chairman of the College Football Playoff selection committee and is taking a leave of absence from the school.
The school said in a statement Thursday that Rhoades’ leave was for personal reasons, and went into effect Wednesday. The school provided no other details and declined further comment.
