Cult-favorite chain Layne’s Chicken Fingers is getting closer to roosting in San Antonio. The Frisco-based brand has filed state paperwork to build its first area location at 1510 TX-46 North in Seguin and inked a major franchising deal that will bring at least one additional restaurant inside the city limits.

On Thursday, November 13, the Texas chain announced an agreement with real estate and restaurant developer Eli Cohen to bring 44 units to San Antonio, West Texas, and the Coastal Bend. The release did not mention how many restaurants would open in San Antonio, but it did promise an eventual debut.

Meanwhile, the chain has filed project details with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for an outpost along the growing TX-46 corridor. The ground-up construction is expected to be completed by May 2026, although state filings are subject to change.

Entrepreneur Mike Layne founded the fast-casual concept in 1994 in College Station, soon bringing on then-Texas A&M student Mike Garratt to help with operations. After graduation, Garratt took over the restaurant while keeping the name. Now, Layne’s is a franchise with locations spread across Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

The joint is known for its “soon-to-be-famous” chicken fingers, available in combo meals with fries and Texas toast. The menu also includes items like club sandwiches, grilled cheeses, and grilled chicken wraps, which can all be dipped in sauces such as barbecue, honey mustard, and jalapeño ranch.

The release did not mention the timeline for the San Antonio expansion, nor the areas of town it is eyeing. A request for further information was not immediately returned.
